Gyudon ! = Beef on rice

Hiya 안녕 您好 こんにちは ! (Hiya Annyon Nihao Konnichiwa)

One of the famous, popular, cheaply eaten stamina food in Japan, Yoshinoya is the “Gyudon”.

“Gyu” means “Beef”,
and “Don” refers to something on rice (the rice part in special) and so it literally means,
 “Beef on rice”!

The most popular chain restaurants will be, Yoshinoya, Matsuya, and Sukiya.
But  I was able to eat at Yoshinoya once, so I’ll introduce you to that one.

First of all, you can find the restaurant anywhere ! even where ! and it is usually a small restaurant !!!

Many men (office workers) are seen here, mostly alone, and they come because the Gyudon is not just tasty and filling, but cheap too.

You can chose the menu, size, and additional things. For example, you can say, “Guydon” > “Normal= Nami”> add an half raw egg and miso soup.
OR if you’re not fond with Gyudon, they even have other choices on the menu, like curry !

It is a fast eating place, and a lot of times, the place is busy, but the meal is made really fast, so if you’re in a hurry, it would be suitable.

You can add the Shouga (red Japanese pickles) or Hichimi (spices) from the table side which makes your Gyudon even more tasty !

I ate the seasonal menu, of “Muritoro” = wheat, grated yam set. Not just that it had the yam, but it was wheat rice which is unusal, and Gyu (beef) too.

Hmm…
I think you may need some confidence to enter that atmosphere of middle aged office working men all sat alone silently, but overall, its really convenient to have a fast cheap, filling, and tasty meal.

I would recommend to go in the early morning, or the lunch time :)

Hope you enjoy “Gyudon” !

Cool Asia !
