Korea traffic circumstances xxx #2 - Buses- 韓国交通事情〜バス編〜

Following the previous topic about Traffic transportation in Korea <about Cars>, today's topic is about ... Korea traffic circumstances xxx #2 - All about Buses!! 

I will introduce you to the Korean public buses using the following 3 points.

1.Features (The color and number)
In total, there are 4 types of colors and numbers depending on the route/line.


  • [ Blue Bus：Main line]
  • Ties the city center and the outskirts, 3 digit numbers, (W1150)
  • [ Green Bus：Branch line] 
  • Linked with the underground subway stations, 4 digit numbers(W1150), zone name ➕2 digit numbered small bus (W850)
  • [ Yellow Bus：Circulation line] 
  • Cycles in the city center in a comparatively small area, 2 digit numbers (W950)
  • [ Red Bus：Wide area line] 
  • Little amount of stop that directly links the city center and the outskirts ,express line, 4 digit numbers(W1950)
2.How to take the bus 
  1. Find the bus stop*

    You can check how much time's left until your bus will come.(Digital Panel ! At some stops)

  2. Enter in the bus from the front door　　　　　　
  3. Find the Card* censer (you'll see it right next to the bus drivers seat) and scan it !
  4. When you hear the announcement, of the bus stop that you want to get off, press the nearest "Get off Button".   (Even if you don't understand Korean, it will show in English, or the announcements will say in English too.)                                   
  5. Before you get off,  find the censor at the back door exit (on either or both sides) , that you need to scan your card again(before getting off).
*It is convenient  to use bus applications, such as "Seoul Bus" to not just find, but know what time the bus will come. 

Card*: T-money, Cash bee. The electrically charged money (You can buy them in mostly all convince stores, and subways) 

3.Specail designs
  • Christmas Randolph version (drivers dressed as Santa or wore the Santa hat )                                                                                           The electronic eyes( the eyes move! E.g. they wink !!!;)
  • Facial stickers on the front               
  • They were actually characters called Tayo! Tayo means "Getting on (a vehicle)", and it must be quite popular, because I even saw the Tayo icecream cake being sold in Baskin Robinsons...                             
  • Pukka stickers on the side                         
  • The most recent bus !!! "Seoul Tiger Trolley" April 1st 〜(Seoul City Tour Bus)


Korean buses are commonly used because of the convenisce and cost (very cheap!)

前回の韓国交通事情〜車編〜に続き、今回はバス編！
ソウルの市内バスについて３つのポイントを押さえて知っちゃいましょう。

1. 特色（色と番号の意味）
  • 『青バス』：幹線路線
  • 都心部と郊外をつなぐバス。番号は３桁。(W1150)

  • 『緑バス』：支線路線
  • 地下鉄との連係路線。番号は４桁。(W1150)。番号が区名➕２桁の小型バスの場合(W850)

  • 『黄バス』：循環路線
  • 都心部の比較的狭い地域を循環する。番号は２桁。(W950)

  • 『赤バス』：広域路線
  • 首都圏郊外と都心部を少ない停車数で直結する急行するタイプ。番号は４桁。(W1950)

2. バスの乗り方
  1. バス停を見つける
  2. 前ドアからバスに乗り、運転手付近のセンサーを電子カードでタッチ
  3. 降車したい停留所がアナウンスされたら、近くにある降車ボタンを押す
  4. 降りる際は後ろドア（左右どちらか、もしくは両方）にあるセンサーを電子カードでタッチ
  5. 降りる
